When we think of a high school class, a clear picture comes to mind: rows of desks filled with students who face the teacher at the head of the classroom. The teacher might sit or stand, depending on preference, and might use the overhead projector or the whiteboard to illustrate a concept. There is always a clear divide. Apprentice, expert. Youth, adult. Student, teacher.

In a few classes at MVHS, however, this picture looks a little bit different. In some classes, a handful of teachers find their place in a student’s desk. Two MVHS teachers have taken the opportunity to continue their learning and started taking classes at our school for themselves. Although they may have different motives for taking the classes, each walks away with not only new information like any other student, but a view of life from the other side of the classroom. They take new methods from their experiences which they apply in their own classrooms and have found places to improve through their unique journeys. They are going through a part of high school all over again, and in doing so are gaining a better understanding of their students. Here are their stories.
